The Benefits of Strength Training

Or… “Barbell Therapy”

Most people workout with the goals of getting stronger, increasing metabolic capacity (endurance/stamina), and improving body composition (lose fat/gain muscle).

No matter what your goals in the gym are, strength training can help you achieve them.

Beyond these fitness related goals, strength training imparts myriad other benefits that cannot be overlooked.

Increased muscle mass helps protect against the bone loss that we all face as we get older (especially women).

Also, being stronger decreases your risk of injury, not just in the gym, but in general. Your overall quality of life will improve with increased strength. Daily tasks, playing with your kids, going for a hike… all of these activities will be easier and more enjoyable if you are stronger.

And let’s not forget that lifting weights can make you happy. I mean really… is there anything better than hitting a PR?!?

But seriously, lifting weights provides an opportunity to do hard things in a controlled environment. Pushing yourself in the gym can lead to increased confidence and resilience in other areas of your life.

There, I said it. Many of life’s problems can be solved by a barbell. And even if lifting doesn’t solve all your problems, at least you’ll be better prepared to face them.
