What goes through your head when you’re approaching a heavy barbell?

Take a minute and actually think about this…

Do you think about anything? Or does your mind go blank?

Do you get nervous and jittery? Or are you calm and focused?

Here are some tips to help you execute these maximal lifts:

When it’s time to lift, get focused. In between sets, it’s fine to shoot the shit and chat with people around you, but when it’s time to lift, your focus should be on the barbell.

Mentally review the cues you want to focus on as you execute the lift. Make a checklist in your head. Visualize your successful execution of the lift.

Set up the same way for every lift regardless of how much weight is on the bar. This will help train your body to do things right every single time.

And once your hands are on the bar, shut your brain off. Let your body take over and just do the work.
